The first state of this series comprises, in addition to a title page and 26 emblems, three sheets with hymns of praise to Mary in letterpress without illustration., printmaker: Jacques Callot, Nancy, publisher: François Langlois, Paris, 1625 - 1629, 1646, paper, etching, height 64 mm x width 84 mm, trees: palm-tree, Two tall, narrow trees with textured trunks stand on a gently sloping landmass, their long, arching fronds curving inward and overlapping to form a canopy; the ground around them shows layered lines suggesting terrain and a shoreline with reflected ripples in the water below, a clump of shorter grasses near the water, and distant rolling hills dotted with small clustered shapes that resemble vegetation and a small built structure, all rendered in fine, linear ink strokes on a pale background.
