Nederduytsche poemata. vol. 3: Hymnus of the Praise of Bacchus, Waerin'tgebruyck and the abuse of the Wine is described. Amsterdam: Willem Jansz Blaeu, Ampelus dies after falling from a bull, Ampelus changed into a vine: after having fallen to his death from a bull, Ampelus, the favorite of Bacchus, is changed into a vine, A detailed engraving shows a pastoral scene with a large tree trunk at center right and dense foliage and plants along the left and foreground. A chubby, partially draped figure stands at right holding a vine with leaves and clusters of fruit while another similar head appears near the bottom right. Near the center a bull is depicted lowering its head toward the ground where a small childlike figure is crouched. At far left a standing figure leans on a staff and watches the scene, surrounded by tall grasses and trees in the background. The ground is textured with crosshatching and scattered plants, and a long straight rod lies on the earth across the lower middle area.
