Portrait of a man with beard, beret and necklace, print, printmaker: Wenceslaus Hollar, Antwerp, after painting by Hans Holbein (II), 1647, paper, etching, height 109 mm x width 74 mm, head-gear: cap (men's clothes), beard, anonymous historical person depicted alone, necklace (men's clothes), A detailed black and white engraving of an older man in profile facing left wearing a large soft hat with a folded brim, a full beard and mustache with wavy hair, and layered garments. The man has textured skin with visible wrinkles and a pronounced nose, and his eye is partially visible under a heavy brow. Several heavy linked chains hang around his neck, one ending in a pendant with a woven or lattice-like design and another ending in an oval-shaped ornament. The clothing shows folds and drapery, and fine parallel and cross-hatched lines create shading and texture across the hat, face, chains, and fabric. The background is lightly hatched, leaving the figure prominent.
