Aladdin, print, A man in Oriental clothing with his hands tied behind his back is being led down the street by a group of horsemen. Around them a crowd of people., printmaker: Marius Bauer (signed by artist), 1893, paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, etching with plate tone, height 139 mm x width 168 mm, tales and fairy tales: One Thousand and One Nights, A densely detailed ink drawing shows a crowded interior scene with many figures gathered in an architectural space of arches, columns, balconies, and tall doorways; the composition is filled with overlapping people in varied postures, some wearing elaborate headdresses or helmets and holding shields, others in robes or cloaks, and several seated or bending. The surrounding architecture includes carved stonework, recessed niches, vaulted openings, and layered balconies with small groups of observers, while draped fabric hangs above part of the scene. In the foreground people cluster tightly, some embracing or leaning toward one another, and a few figures stand more prominently near the center wearing ornate garments. The line work is dense and cross-hatched, creating deep shadows and textured surfaces across both figures and architectural elements, with darker vertical areas contrasting against lighter spaces. The overall tonal palette is monochrome, with intricate pen strokes defining faces, clothing folds, decorative armor, and architectural details throughout the scene.
