Ruins of ramparts, print, printmaker: Alexander Schaepkens, 1830 - 1899, paper, chine collé, etching, height 108 mm x width 155 mm, ruin of a building, architecture, walls, fortified city, A monochrome etching shows a riverside scene dominated by a large arched stone bridge with textured masonry and a smaller arch beneath it, flanked by rounded stone structures and layered rooftops. To the right, tiled roofs and a tall narrow chimney rise behind foliage, while to the left stepped stone forms and sloped surfaces lead toward the water. The water surface below the bridge reflects crosshatched lines and is bordered by low vegetation and irregular stonework. The sky above is filled with horizontal hatch marks and scattered cloud outlines, and the entire image is rendered with dense linear engraving and varied crosshatching.
