In the foreground a wooden wharf and piers extend over the water, supported by visible posts and beams, with small rowboats and skiffs along the shoreline and several figures aboard and near the boats. A stone archway and bridge structure appear at the left edge, and at the right edge there are more multi-story buildings with open galleries and external stairways. Plumes of smoke rise from distant chimneys into a cloudy sky where a few birds are visible. The overall image is rendered in detailed monochrome line work with cross-hatching.
