The prints were made by various artists based on drawings by Daniel Chodowiecki. In 1774 the collected print work appeared under the title: Kupfersammlung zu JB Basedows Elementarwerk für die Jugend und ihre Freunde., Person, Johann Bernhard Basedow, court session (court of justice), flogging, scourging (in public), on the scaffold or place of execution, banishment, exile, running the gauntlet, A large engraved sheet divided into rectangular panels showing scenes with many figures and architectural elements, including groups of men in period clothing gathered around raised platforms, a row of uniformed soldiers with long pikes and a mounted officer on a rearing horse, a crowd watching a public spectacle with people on horseback and on foot, interior scenes with men at counters or benches surrounded by books and shelves, a courtyard or gate area with men moving a heavy wooden wheelbarrow and others standing nearby, a small scene of a prisoner or figure crouched inside a barred doorway while a guard stands outside, and various trees, buildings, and decorative stonework framing the panels.
