The prints were produced by various artists based on drawings by Daniel Chodowiecki. In 1774, the collected print work appeared under the title: Kupfersammlung zu JB Basedows Elementarwerk für die Jugend und ihre Freunde., Person, Johann Bernhard Basedow, Protestant service, contemplating nature, teacher and pupil (lesson, lecture), The image shows an engraving divided into panels with finely hatched lines; the upper left panel depicts a rocky coastal path with groups of robed figures walking along cliffs toward a circular temple-like building atop a hill, while the upper right panel shows a robed man standing beside a table covered with draped cloth and books, gesturing toward a line of children or youths who stand facing him in a room decorated with botanical and anatomical illustrations on the walls; the lower, larger scene portrays an interior hall with high windows and rows of seated women and girls in benches, some standing or kneeling, while a man stands on a dais gesturing from behind a table and other figures stand or sit nearby, all rendered in careful crosshatching and line work.
