Raimondi in turn borrowed this subject from work by Francesco di Francia, Christ's entombment (possibly by angels), A circular engraving showing a central lifeless male figure with a beard and draped cloth across his hips, surrounded by a group of people whose faces show varied solemn expressions; a large wooden cross with visible woodgrain stands behind them and the figures form a semicircular composition around the central body; several individuals wear head coverings or turbans and layered robes, one figure in the foreground has long flowing hair and reaches toward the central figure, while others support or touch the body; the scene is rendered in fine parallel hatching and crosshatching with a muted paper background.
