Death of Ananias, Reproduction of a design of The Death of Ananias by Raphael, reproduction, photomechanical print, This print is part of a cover with 9 sheets., photographer: Charles Thurston Thompson, after design by Raphael, c. 1880 - in or before 1885, paper, Woodburytype, Woodburytypie, height 120 mm x width 188 mm, Ananias, rebuked by Peter, falls down and dies between his gifts, A large sepia-toned reproduction of a classical painting shows a group of robed figures gathered on a stepped platform, with several central figures standing and gesturing while others kneel or recline on the steps; the standing figures wear flowing garments and cloaks, some with beards and long hair, and one raises an arm with a pointing finger, while to the right a figure leans over a railing toward a seated group that includes women and a child receiving a bowl; in the foreground muscular, partially clad men lie and scramble on the floor and steps, reaching or turning toward the central scene; the background includes a darker panel behind the standing figures and a faint landscape with a tree visible at the far left; the image is bordered by a wide, lighter margin that shows mottled stains and age spots.
