The foreground includes uneven stone surfaces framing the entrance to a deeper passage. Midway into the image a set of narrow, uneven steps leads downward beside a low archway, and a small, pale vertical rod is visible against the left rock face. Light and shadow highlight the layered striations in the rock and the rough, irregular contours of the passage, with darker recesses toward the far end and softer illumination near the steps. The photograph is bordered by a light margin.
