Diptych, page, photomechanical print, number: 'No. 211-65', inscription: 'End of Thirteenth, or, early Fourteenth Century', London, c. 1867 - in or before 1872, paper, Woodburytype, height 147 mm x width 108 mm, Passion of Christ, sculpture (relief, sculpture), A vertical rectangular photograph shows a pair of ornate carved wooden panels set within a rectangular frame, each panel divided into horizontal tiers of sculpted scenes beneath pointed Gothic arches and decorative tracery. The carvings depict many standing and seated human figures in robes arranged in narrative groupings, with some figures shown with hands raised, holding objects, or interacting with others; one scene includes a central figure on a cross positioned beneath an arch. The panels are hinged together at the center with visible metal hinges. The surface shows fine carved details such as drapery folds, architectural pinnacles, circular rosette motifs, and small sculpted faces within the arches. The overall tone of the image is a sepia monochrome, and the carved panels sit against a lighter neutral background with a narrow margin surrounding the framed work.
