The central mounted figures wear more ornate garments and capes and sit on horses that stand slightly apart from the others, and the surrounding riders form a semicircle with varied armor styles and shields visible on their backs and horses. In the background a cluster of point-topped tents stretches across the scene and a few smaller human figures stand near the tents, with a faint suggestion of distant buildings on the horizon. The image has an aged, sepia-toned appearance with shading and fine line work throughout.
