The oval frame is embellished with floral garlands at the top and sides, a scallop shell motif above the man's head, and scrollwork. Beneath the oval, there is a symmetrical decorative cartouche with acanthus-like scrolls, a small shield, and clusters of fruits and flowers flanking each side. At the lower edge of the image, two paw-like carved supports emerge from the frame, and a rectangular platform with a folded paper or ribbon-like element rests in front. The background outside the oval is plain and unadorned.
