In the foreground a wooden wagon wheel and part of a cart frame lie on the ground near a patch of grass. Three uniformed men stand near the center of the open area, two grouped together holding walking sticks and one standing slightly apart with a sash across his chest. A horse hitched to a simple wooden cart is positioned behind the standing men, and a few additional figures are scattered near doorways and windows of the buildings. The ground is an open dirt surface and a low wooden plank or curb runs across the foreground.
