In front of the buildings a busy open market fills the foreground with numerous canvas tents and stalls, carts, wooden crates, and barrels. Many people in period clothing stand, walk, or gather in small groups across the square, some near the stalls and others by horse-drawn carts. A tall, decorative lamppost stands near the left side of the image, and a few bicycles and handcarts are visible among the crowd. The overall tone of the photograph is sepia, with visible grain and aged borders.
