Two Sinhalese men with bales of cinnamon, sketchbook page, Outside, two men are standing by the road. Both carry a carrying pole (pingo) over their shoulders, from which hangs a bale of rolled cinnamon bark at the front and back. They belong to the occupational group of cinnamon peelers (chalias or Salagama). The man on the left is bald. He wears a loincloth (veshti, lungi) reaching above the knee, wrapped in the Sinhalese manner and tucked at the waist; the upper body is uncovered. He holds the carrying pole (pingo) on his right shoulder with his right hand. The rear bale of cinnamon is partially concealed in the back binding. The man on the right is dressed in a loincloth (veshti, wrapped in the Sinhalese manner and tucked at the waist; the upper body is uncovered. He has short curly hair, a mustache, and a short beard. On his left shoulder lies the carrying pole (pingo) from which bundles of cinnamon bark hang at the front and back.
