Two Sinhalese tillers, sketchbook page, Two men are standing outside at the edge of an open field. They are each standing with a hoe (udalla) on a long stick. They are both wearing only a small loincloth (lanket, lunket) that covers the groin and leaves the buttocks bare. Here it is clearly visible how the cloth has been pulled through the legs and tucked behind the fabric at the back. The long wavy hair of both men hangs loosely over the shoulders. Both men drawn are possibly one and the same figure. These man (men) are Sinhalese farmers belonging to the Goviya caste. They are clearly posing for the artist with the tool used to make the dikes in a rice field. The rice field in which they are working is possibly visible in the background.
