East side and west side of Drottningholm Castle, Regiae arcis Drottningholmensis Palatij facies à parte orientali, Facies Palatij Drottningholmensis à parte occidua, Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, print, album page, printmaker: Willem Swidde, Stockholm, supervision: Erik Jönssen Dahlberg, 1694, paper, etching, height 259 mm x width 387 mm, palace, Lovön, Slot Drottningholm (Lovön), A detailed monochrome engraving showing two horizontal views of a large classical palace complex by water, with the upper view framed by trees and rocky foreground and the lower view focused more on the palace and waterfront activity. The palace features multiple domes, a central ornate tower, rows of tall windows, and symmetrically arranged wings with balustrades and decorative rooflines. Stone terraces, piers, and low walls extend into the water, creating enclosed harbors with small buildings and boats moored alongside. Figures in period clothing are scattered on the terraces and embankments, some walking, some standing in groups, and a few near carriages. Trees and shrubs border the scene, with larger trees visible at the left edge and distant wooded islands across the water. The sky is textured with fine engraved lines suggesting clouds, and the whole image is executed in intricate line work and stippling.
