Surrounding the castle are dense clusters of small pitched-roof houses, streets, and a prominent church with a tall spire rising above the rooftops. A broad river or harbor runs through the foreground with several sailing boats and rowboats on the water, and a wooden bridge or causeway connecting parts of the town. Trees and cultivated plots appear near the water’s edge and beyond the built area, and rolling hills extend into the background under a sky filled with layered clouds.
