A paved courtyard in front of the central building contains groups of people in period dress walking, standing, and conversing, with a few figures appearing to gesture or point. Several carriages and horses are situated near the foreground, some with drivers and passengers, and a few people stand beside the vehicles. Low fences and statues mark the approach to the main steps of the central building. The background features a tree-covered landscape stretching to the horizon, a distant body of water with small sailing vessels, and a sky filled with layered, textured clouds. The overall image is rendered in fine linework and engraving shading.
