Together with four other series, it forms the large series: 'Il nuovo teatro di Roma moderna'., square, circus, church (exterior), city-view, and landscape with man-made constructions, St. Peter's Basilica, St. Peter's Square, A wide engraved view shows a large semicircular colonnade encircling an open plaza with an Egyptian obelisk at its center and sculpted fountains on either side. In the background a grand basilica with a large central dome flanked by smaller domes rises behind a classical façade with columns and pediments. Rows of classical buildings with many windows and decorative cornices extend to the right. Small groups of people and a few horse-drawn carriages are scattered across the plaza and along the colonnade. The sky above is filled with engraved clouds and the distant horizon shows low rooftops and trees.
