Writing sample: Tout exel(len)t tailleur de tout bois faict, Grammato-Graphices. In Quo Varia Scripurae Emblemata, print, album page, ornament print, Writing example with an oval, scrollwork ornaments and four and two lines of text in French: Tout exel(len)t tailleur de tout bois faict ..., printmaker: Cornelis Dircksz. Boissens, Amsterdam, 1605, paper, engraving, gravure, height 202 mm x width 275 mm, height 227 mm x width 345 mm, calligraphy, A large oval formed by a thin dark line fills the upper portion of an aged, off-white sheet, with ornate, looping pen flourishes symmetrically arranged near the top and sides of the oval; two tall vertically stacked spirals with tight inner loops rise from each side, and broad sweeping scrolls curve near the lower sides of the oval. Inside the oval, delicate intersecting curved lines create an intricate horizontal flourish near the top center, and finer vertical and horizontal strokes descend toward the middle where a rounded decorative loop rests. The paper shows subtle discoloration, faint stains, and small spots across its surface, including darker blemishes near the left upper area and lower right edge, with a watermarked band of darker tone along the bottom margin.
