Bust of a church dignitary; Jean Pierre Norblin de la Gourdaine (1745–1830), graphic artist; Dominik Witke-Jezewski (1862–1944). French, Polish; portraits of clergy; male portrait; print. Hillemacher gives 2 states of this engraving: 1 — head covered with a cap; 2 — in a high hat. A print exists as in state 2 with a more elaborated (plasticized) form and a very clear date, 1784. Graphic matrix/plate. Dimensions: height 5.8 cm, width 4.8 cm, thickness 0.1 cm., A rectangular etched plate showing a portrait of an older person wearing a tall hat and a heavy fur-lined robe, rendered with fine crosshatching and short strokes. The figure faces slightly toward the viewer with a neutral facial expression, visible eyes, nose, and mouth created by detailed incised lines. The hat has textured, curved marks, and the robe shows dense fur-like strokes around the collar and sleeves. The person's hands rest in front, one touching a flat surface or draped cloth, with visible finger lines and shading. The background is filled with a regular grid of short horizontal and vertical hatch marks creating a dense textured field. The overall color palette includes warm coppery brown tones, darker brown lines from the etching, and lighter tan highlights on raised areas.
