Denarius of Commodus (reigned 177–192). Obverse: Head of Commodus with a laurel wreath facing right, inscription L AEL AVREL CO L. Reverse: Two standing figures—on the left, the personification of Africa (Alexandria) wearing an elephant scalp, holding a sistrum, with a lion at its feet, offering ears of corn to Hercules-Commodus on the right, who stands with one foot on the prow of a ship and rests his club on a rock; inscription PROVIDENTIAE AVG. Date: 191–192. Roman Empire, Rome. Coin; diameter 15.5–16.0 mm, weight 2.30 g, axis 180°.
