Denarius of Marcus Aurelius (121–180; Roman emperor 161–180), 179. Obverse: Head of Marcus Aurelius in a laurel wreath facing right, inscription 'M AVREL ANT - ONINVS AVG' around. Reverse: Salus seated left; in her right hand she holds two ears of corn above an altar with a snake wrapped around it, her left hand rests on the back of the seat, inscription 'TR P XXXIII I - MP X COS III PP' around. Iconography includes personifications, snakes, ears of corn, altars. Roman Empire (27 BC–476), Rome. Coin (denarius): diameter ~17.0–17.5 mm, weight 2.85 g, axis 180°.
