Denarius, Marcus Aurelius (121–180; Roman emperor 161–180), issuer. Obverse: Head of Marcus Aurelius in a laurel wreath to the right, inscription NTONINVS - AVG TR P XXVI all around. Reverse: Roma seated on a shield decorated with the head of Medusa (gorgoneion) to the left; in her outstretched right hand she holds Victoria, in her left a spear, inscription IMP VI - COS III all around. Iconography: gorgoneion, personifications (Roma, Victoria), shields, spears. Date: 171–172. Culture/place: Roman Empire, Rome. Object type: coin (denarius). Dimensions: diameter 17.0–17.5 mm, weight 3.55 g, axis 180 degrees.
