Denarius, Marcus Aurelius (121–180; Roman emperor 161–180), ca. 158–159. Obverse: Head of Marcus Aurelius without a cap to the right, inscription VRELIVS CAES - AVG PII F all around. Reverse: Virtus stands right with his left foot on a lying helmet; in his right hand he holds a spear with the head down and in his left a parade dagger (parazonium), inscription TR POT XIII - COS II all around. Iconography: personifications, parazonium (attribute), spears, helmets. Roman Empire (27 BC–476), Rome. Coin: silver denarius; diam. 17.0–17.5 mm, weight 3.22 g, axis 180°.
