Denarius, Marcus Aurelius (121–180; Roman emperor 161–180), issued ca. 156–157. Obverse: head of young Marcus Aurelius without a cap to the right, inscription AVRELIVS CAES ANTON AVG PII F (circumferential). Reverse: Virtus standing left, holding a parade dagger (parazonium) in his right hand and a spear with the head down in his left, inscription TR P OT XI C OS II (circumferential). Iconography: personifications, parazonium (attribute), spears. Roman Empire (27 BC–476), Rome. Coin: silver denarius; diameter 17.5–18.0 mm, weight 2.47 g, axis 15°.
