Denarius of Antoninus Pius (86–161; Roman emperor 138–161). Obverse: head of the emperor in a laurel wreath facing right, inscription 'ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P TR P XII' (abbreviated). Reverse: Salus (personification) standing left, holding a patera above an altar around which a snake coils, and a rudder resting on a globe in her left hand; reverse inscription 'COS IIII' (circumferential). Date: 148–149. Roman Empire, Rome. Coin; diameter ~17–18 mm, weight 2.75 g, axis 165°.
