Denarius of Antoninus Pius (r. 138–161). Obverse: head of the emperor in a laurel wreath facing right, inscription ANTONINVS AVG - PIVS PP TR P XI. Reverse: Salus standing left, holding a patera above an altar around which a snake coils, and in her left hand a rudder on a globe, inscription C O S - IIII. Iconography: Salus, snakes, altars, head of the emperor in laurel wreath, rudders. Date: 147–148. Roman Empire, Rome. Coin (silver); diameter 16.5–17.5 mm, weight 3.20 g, axis 180°.
