Double Augustor, Croll, Ernest Dietrich (fl. 1753–1763); August III Sas (King of Poland; Elector of Saxony; 1696–1763). Thaler, 1756. Obverse: Crowned bust of the king in right profile, with the Order of the Golden Fleece on the chest. Inscription: D:G:AUGUSTUS III.REX POLONIARUM. Reverse: Under the crown, a five-field shield surrounded by two palm branches, with the Polish, Lithuanian, and Saxon coats of arms. At the bottom, EC /10:TH. Inscription: SAC.ROM.IMP.ARCHIM. ET ELECT. Edge decorated with notches. Weight: 13.13 g., A circular gold coin fills the frame showing a raised central shield divided into four quadrants with small stylized animal and heraldic figures and a crowned emblem at the top of the shield; a large ornate crown sits above the shield and decorative leaf-like flourishes curve along the sides. The coin surface is metallic gold with areas of slightly darker patina and fine engraved lines and dots along the rim, and the relief elements cast subtle shadows creating highlights and lowlights in gold and muted yellow tones.
