Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1107–1138). Obverse (in beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse (in triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; a ball at the intersection of the arms and one ball between the arms. Romanesque style; iconography: fight of good against evil, fight against pagans; motifs include knights, dragons, spears, spearhead (issue mark), equal-armed cross, chain mail, mouths.
