Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138), ca. 1125–1138. Obverse (beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an inverted dragon; a dot beneath the knight's feet. Reverse (triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms, two quarters contain two balls each (smaller ones nearer the center, larger ones outward) and the other two quarters contain one ball each. Materials/technique: coin. Diameter: 12.5–12.9 mm. Weight: 0.50 g. Style: Romanesque. Subject motifs: knight, dragon, spears/spearhead, chain mail, crosses, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; reference to St. Wojciech (ca. 956–997). Maker: Jastrzebowski, Stanislaw (1898–1980) (issue mark).
