Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138), ca. 1125–1138. Obverse: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms, two quarters with two balls each (smaller ones nearer the center, larger ones each with a dot) and two quarters with one ball each. Romanesque style; themes: Adalbert (Saint), martyrs, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; iconography includes knight, chain mail, spear/spearhead, dragons, mouths, crosses. Coin; Poland, Kraków; diameter approx. 11.9–12.2 mm; weight 0.50 g.
