Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Romanesque coin, ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków. Obverse: in beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; under the knight's right elbow three dots in a triangle, under the left elbow two vertically aligned dots. Reverse: in triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with spheres (one with a dot); between its arms, one dot nearer the center and one sun nearer the ends (two of them with one dot each). Motifs: knight, dragon, fight against pagans, fight between good and evil, spears, spearhead (issue mark), crosses, chainmail; possible reference to St. Adalbert (ca. 956–997). Diameter ~12.3–12.8 mm; weight 0.43 g.
