Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse (beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; under the knight's right elbow an isosceles cross topped with balls. Reverse (triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection a ball; between the arms radiating two balls (one smaller, one larger; two of them bear a dot). Allegorical imagery referencing knights, martyrs, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans, Saint Adalbert. Romanesque style. Makers/engraver: Jastrzebowski, Stanislaw (1898–1980) [issue mark: spearhead]. Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 11.9–12.8 mm; weight 0.41 g.
