Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse (in beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse (in triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms one ball (one with a dot); at the intersection of the arms a dot. Allegorical imagery of martyrs, knights, dragons, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; Romanesque style; depiction related to Saint Adalbert (ca. 956–997). Spear/spearhead motif; equal-armed cross. Ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 12.1–12.3 mm; weight 0.40 g.
