Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1107–1138). Obverse (beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse (triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms a ball; between the arms one ball; one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Allegorical imagery: knight, dragon, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; possible reference to Saint Adalbert (ca. 956–997). Romanesque style. Spearhead (issue mark). Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Poland, Kraków. Medium: coin. Diameter: 12.6–12.8 mm. Weight: 0.33 g.
