Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; reign c. 1107–1138). Obverse (beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon — motif of knights, dragons, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; associated with Saint Adalbert. Reverse (triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with spheres (one marked with a dot); between its arms one sphere (two with dots); one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Romanesque style; spears, crosses. c. 1125–1138, Poland (Kraków). Coin; diameter ~11.7–12.2 mm; weight 0.34 g.
