denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138), Romanesque, ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków, coin, diameter 12.2 mm, weight 0.25 g. Obv.: In the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; a ball under the knight's right elbow and a dot outside his right hand. Rv.: In the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; a ball between its arms; one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Iconography: equal-armed cross, crosses, spearhead (issue mark), chain mail, mouth, knight, martyrs, dragons, dragon, mouths, Adalbert (St.; ca. 956–997), fight between good and evil, spear/spears, fight against pagans.
