Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1107–1138). Obverse: in a linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles equal-armed cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms, a ball; between them three balls (fourth obscured by a surface defect). Features: allegorical imagery, crosses, knight in chain mail, spearhead (issue mark), dragons, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans, reference to St. Adalbert (ca. 956–997); Romanesque style. Date: ca. 1125–1138. Origin: Kraków, Poland. Medium: coin (denarius). Diameter: 11.7–12.7 mm. Weight: 0.33 g.
