Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1107–1138). Romanesque style, ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków. Coin (obverse): in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. (Reverse): in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (one with a dot). At the intersection of the arms, a ball; between the arms, one ball (two with a dot). One arm intersects the other at approx. 1/3 of its length. Motifs: allegories, crosses, equal-armed cross, spearhead (issue mark), chain mail, jaws, martyrs, knight, knights, dragon, fight between good and evil, Middle Ages, fight against pagans, spear, dragons, spears, Wojciech (St.; ca. 956–997). Diameter: 11.8–12.1 mm. Weight: 0.47 g.
