denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1107–1138), Romanesque style, ca. 1125–1138, Kraków, Poland; coin; diameter 12.5 mm; weight 0.32 g. Obv.: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; a ball on the knight's belt. Rv.: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (one with a dot); between its arms one ball (two with a dot). Subjects/allegories: equal-armed cross, spearhead (issue mark), chain mail, crosses, jaws, martyrs, knight, dragon, fight between good and evil, Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997), fight against pagans, spear(s).
