Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1107–1138 / 1086–1138). Obverse: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with crossbars, a dot at the intersection of the arms, with four radiating spheres (smaller ones nearer the center, larger ones farther out). Iconography: spearhead (issue mark), equal-armed cross, crosses, chain mail, knight, dragon, jaws, spears; themes of martyrs, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans. Romanesque style. Attributed to Saint Adalbert (ca. 956–997) imagery. Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Kraków, Poland. Coin; diameter 12.2–12.5 mm; weight 0.46 g. State of preservation: very good.
