denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138/ruled 1107–1138), Romanesque, ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków; coin (denarius), diameter 11.9–12.7 mm, weight 0.25 g. Obverse: in a linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; a ball under the knight's right elbow. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles (equal-armed) cross topped with balls, with a ball at the intersection of the arms. Motifs: allegories, equal-armed cross, spearhead (issue mark), chain mail, crosses, knight, martyrs, dragons, mouth(s), spears, fight against pagans, fight between good and evil; associated figure: Adalbert (St.; ca. 956–997).
