Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms, one ball (two of them have one dot each; observation hindered by under-striking). Allegorical imagery (knight, dragon, fight between good and evil), spearhead (issue mark), equal-armed cross, crosses, chain mail, martyrs, mouths, spears. Romanesque style. Possibly references St. Adalbert (ca. 956–997). Ca. 1125–1138, Kraków, Poland. Coin (denarius). Diameter: 12.8–13.2 mm. Weight: 0.45 g.
