Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms, a ball; one ball between the arms. Allegorical imagery of knights, dragons, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; motifs include equal-armed cross, spearhead (issue mark), jaws, chain mail, crosses, martyrs, Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997), spears. Romanesque style. Date ca. 1125–1138. Poland, Kraków. Coin (denarius); diameter 12.8–13.2 mm; weight 0.28 g.
