Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms, in two quarters radiating two balls each (smaller ones closer to the center, larger ones farther), in the other two quarters one ball each. Iconography: spearhead, chain mail, equal-armed cross, dragons, knights, mouths, spears; themes of martyrs, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; Romanesque style; depiction associated with Saint Adalbert (ca. 956–997). Date ca. 1125–1138. Poland, Kraków. Coin. Diameter 12.1–12.5 mm. Weight 0.53 g.
