Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obv.: in beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Rv.: in triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with spheres (one with a dot); between its arms, nearer the center one dot, nearer the ends one sun (two of them with one dot each). Iconography: spearhead, chain mail, equal-armed cross, knight, dragon, jaws, martyrs, spears; themes of fight against pagans and fight between good and evil; Romanesque style; depiction of Saint Adalbert (Adalbert; ca. 956–997) implied. Date: ca. 1125–1138. Poland, Kraków. Coin. Diameter 12.1–12.3 mm. Weight 0.38 g.
